Mateos is one of the latest rediscoveries in Rioja, embodying the true character of this region in its wines. Mateo Ruiz, who has been heading up this project since the winery was constructed in the year 2000, amazes and offers great wines with their own distinctive personality and character, with Rioja Baja and Aldeanueva de Ebro as the hallmarks of their identity.

Rias Baixas

Rías Baixas makes some of the world’s most elegant white wines and is home to the native grape variety, Albariño. The wine region occupies a lush green corridor of northwest Spain on the cool, Atlantic coast, an area known as Galicia.
Albariño wines from Rias Baixas are known for their freshness, crisp acidity, and aromatic qualities. They often exhibit fruity and floral aromas, with notes of citrus, peach, apricot, and white flowers. They’re also highly versatile and pair exceptionally well with seafood dishes, thanks to the region’s coastal influence.
The region is divided into five subzones, each with its unique microclimate and soil characteristics. Winemakers in Rias Baixas use modern techniques, such as stainless steel tanks, to preserve the fruit-forward and vibrant nature of Albariño.
Internationally, Rias Baixas has gained recognition and popularity for its distinctive character, which continue to impress wine enthusiasts around the world.
