UPAL Cooperative Cisternino was established in 1956 when 22 wine producers, gathered on a warm August day, decided to give dignity to their work and the right valor to their products.
Since then we are now more than a thousand members with the same goal of creating a dynamic wine cooperative.
Itria Valley
Fiano Minutolo
Minutolo is an indigenous white grape variety typical of this very small area of Valle d’Itria, described as moderate to strongly aromatic by Dr Ian D’Agata.
A very difficult vine to work, prone to the main grape diseases, not very productive, with an intense and peculiar aroma; it was quite close to disappear also because old farmers preferred to uproot these plants to make room for varieties easier to grow and more productive. Generically called Fiano in the past, in recent years, various studies and research have resulted in its definitive placement within the family of white Muscats, where it was erroneously believed to be an aromatic Fiano sub-variety. It’s called Minutolo because of the small size of the berries that make up the bunch.
Thanks to its distinctiveness this grape vine is also suitable for making quality spumanti and sweet wines.
