Susumaniello Salento 2019 – UPAL
£14.00 Original price was: £14.00.£12.90Current price is: £12.90.
The aromas of the bouquet are composed of ripe red fruit, spices, withered flowers and balsamic notes of olives and Mediterranean scrub. It is structured, acid and austere on the palate, dominated by thundering tannins and great intensity and persistence. Goes well with main courses of great structure: pork, beef or game cooked on the grill.

UPAL Cooperative Cisternino was established in 1956 when 22 wine producers, gathered on a warm August day, decided to give dignity to their work and the right valor to their products.
Since then we are now more than a thousand members with the same goal of creating a dynamic wine cooperative.
Itria Valley
Susumaniello
The Susumaniello is a fascinating grape, that has been growing exclusively in Puglia, mainly in the province of Brindisi. The name comes from its abundant yield that allowed, literally, to “load the donkey”.
The high productivity of this variety falls drastically with the age of vine, slowly it became less and less productive, and over the years it produced less than a kilo of grapes per plant. In times when production and alcohol content counted, this grape gave way to more reliable and generous varieties. A pity, because its clusters, with small berries and thick skin, rich in colour and tannin, create a structured wine, intense, rich in fruit and spicy tones, which with the right ageing comes to express true complexity and elegance.
