The story of Gurrieri originates from a family passion. Giovanni and Angela, born and raised with the agricultural and farming passion of their father Vincenzo and mother Graziella who have been producing grapes together for fifty years, continue the family tradition and decide to produce grapes, wine, and oil in Sicily, in Chiaramonte Gulfi, in the province of Ragusa. The dream of making a Sicilian wine that represents the identity of the birthplace begins in 2010 with the first bottling.
We are in the countryside of the Monti Iblei, in the fertile Val di Noto, in the area of the only Sicilian DOCG, that of Cerasuolo di Vittoria.
For each label, small quantities are produced: around 3000 bottles. Thus, the “Gurrieri collection” is born, which becomes the reflection of the agricultural and farming vocation of Ragusa.
Today, the family cultivates organically and enhances autochthonous grape varieties such as Nero d’Avola, Frappato, Grillo, and an international grape variety, Syrah, well adapted to Sicilian soils and climate.

Frappato and Nero d’Avola

Frappato and Nero d’Avola are two grape varieties that are commonly blended together, like the Donna Grazia, to make wines in Sicily, Italy. Frappato is a lighter-bodied grape with bright red fruit flavours and floral aromas, while Nero d’Avola is a fuller-bodied grape with darker fruit flavours and a spicy, earthy character. When blended together, Frappato can add a fresh acidity and a touch of elegance to Nero d’Avola’s structure, creating a balanced and complex wine. The resulting blend can vary in style depending on the proportions used, but generally exhibits a medium to full body, with flavours of red and dark fruits, along with some herbal and earthy notes. Frappato-Nero d’Avola blends are versatile and can pair well with a variety of foods, including pasta dishes, grilled meats, and cheese. These wines can also be enjoyed on their own, as they often have a pleasant aroma and a smooth, easy-drinking character. Overall, Frappato-Nero d’Avola blends are a great representation of Sicilian winemaking and are worth trying if you have the opportunity.
