We love it because it’s a living, evolving wine. At first, it charms with ripe fruit and sweet spices. Then, layer by layer, it reveals balsamic notes, earthy undertones, and a delicate touch of minerality that speaks of its unique terroir. Every sip feels alive, constantly unfolding and full of surprises.
You’ll love it because it’s an invitation to travel through Tuscany’s rolling hills, to discover Antinori’s heritage, and to share a piece of Italian winemaking history. Whether you’re opening it to celebrate a special moment or adding it to your private collection, Tignanello 2021 will always stand out.
An icon of Italian wine, Tignanello was born in 1971 and redefined Tuscan winemaking by breaking traditional rules and pioneering a new vision of excellence. It was the first Sangiovese ever aged in barriques, the first contemporary red blended with non-traditional varieties — specifically Cabernet Sauvignon — and among the first wines in Chianti Classico to be crafted without white grapes.
Tignanello is a true milestone. Produced from a meticulous selection of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, it represents a perfect balance between heritage and innovation. Over the decades, it has earned its place among the world’s most admired and collectible reds, continuing to inspire wine lovers and collectors alike.
Vintage Report
The 2021 vintage in Chianti Classico will be remembered as a season of patience and balance. A year that gifted both power and grace.
Winter was mild, with frequent rainfall until late March. The early spring brought anticipated bud break, yet the cool and dry conditions in April slowed the vines’ vegetative cycle. May and June followed a regular rhythm, offering warm but not excessive temperatures and occasional rains that ensured excellent flowering and fruit set across all varieties planted in the Tignanello vineyard.
Summer leaned hot and dry, particularly in August. However, timely showers towards the end of the month refreshed the soils and allowed the vines to resume ripening under optimal conditions.
September and October were simply perfect. Sunny days, moderate temperatures, cooling breezes, and fresh nights created the ideal environment for slow, even ripening. As a result, the 2021 vintage ranks among the finest ever for Tignanello, delivering fruit of remarkable depth and harmony. Harvest began in the last ten days of September with Sangiovese and concluded on October 20th with Cabernet. A year to remember — and a wine that reflects it beautifully.
Marchesi Antinori
No other Italian wine family can match the legacy and prestige of the Antinori name in Tuscany. The Antinori family has been devoted to the art of winemaking for over six centuries — ever since 1385, when Giovanni di Piero Antinori became a member of the Florentine Winemakers’ Guild.
Across 26 generations, the family has always managed the estate directly, making bold and innovative choices while maintaining an unwavering respect for tradition and terroir. Today, the business is led by the 26th generation — sisters Albiera, Allegra, and Alessia Antinori — alongside CEO Renzo Cotarella. Their father, Marchese Piero Antinori, now serves as Honorary President.
This long journey has been guided by tradition, passion, and intuition — values that have shaped Antinori into one of Italy’s most influential and respected wine producers. Every vintage, every vineyard, and every new idea represents a fresh beginning, a constant pursuit of excellence and ever-higher quality.
Over time, alongside their historic estates in Tuscany and Umbria, the Antinori family has invested in prestigious terroirs across Italy and beyond. From the mid-1970s, their vision and commitment sparked a renaissance in Italian winemaking, giving life to some of the country’s most celebrated wines: Tignanello, Solaia, Cervaro della Sala, and the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Badia a Passignano.
Today, Marchesi Antinori stands as a symbol of innovation rooted in heritage, continuing to shape the future of Italian wine while honouring more than 600 years of history.
