The nose is wonderfully complex, black currant, blackberry and mint aromas, very fruity with delicate floral and spicy notes. The tannic and smooth texture is striking on the palate, ending in a crisp and lively finish.

One of the most acclaimed Italian wineries, Tenuta dell’Ornellaia is famous for crafting some of the most sought-after wines from Bolgheri. Part of the original “Super-Tuscans”, the eponymous wine, Ornellaia, is an ode to the Mediterranean character of this stretch of the Tuscan coast. Far from resting on their laurels, the winemaking team, headed by maverick estate director Axel Heinz, possess a full range of vibrant, long-lived, elegant wines that speak loudly about the potential of their unique terroir. Their range includes red wines, whites, dessert, grappa and even olive oil – all crafted with the same meticulous attention. The Solaia is of the best Italian wine in the world, and Le Volte is her young  brother.

Super Tuscan, Le Volte

Super Tuscan, just like Le Volte, is a term used to describe red wines from Tuscany that may include non-indigenous grapes, particularly Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. The creation of super Tuscan wines resulted from the frustration winemakers had towards a slow bureaucracy in changing Italy’s wine law during the 1970s. Winemakers began mixing ‘unsanctioned’ wine varieties into their blends to make high-quality wines. The legal system eventually yielded in 1992 with the creation of IGT, a new designation that gave winemakers the ability to be more creative.
The most famous and first super Tuscan wine is Tignanello by Antinori.
