The Di Giovanna family is one of the oldest wine-producing families in Sicily. Today, their production focuses on Sicilian native grape varieties such as Nero d’Avola, Nerello Mascalese, Grillo, Catarratto, as well as some international varieties like Chardonnay, Syrah, and Merlot.
The Di Giovanna estate is managed by the brothers Gunther and Klaus. The winery is located in the mountains at the foot of Mount Genuardo, within a protected natural reserve.
Their family vineyards are cultivated organically between Sambuca di Sicilia and Contessa Entellina, in the heart of western Sicily.

Grillo

Grillo is a versatile white grape variety that is primarily grown in Sicily. Although it has historically been used in the production of fortified Marsala wines, it is now more commonly used to produce still white wines, which can be either varietal or blended.
There is some debate over the origins of Grillo, with some suggesting that it is native to Sicily and others proposing that it was introduced to the island from the southern Italian region of Puglia. Regardless of its origin, Grillo is well-suited to the hot and dry Sicilian climate, and its high sugar levels and oxidation resistance make it a good candidate for fortification.
However, as quality has become a more important consideration for Sicilian wine producers, Grillo has begun to receive more attention as a varietal for still white wines. When vinified to a high standard, Grillo produces a fresh, light wine with nutty, fruit-driven flavours that include notes of lemon and apple.
Grillo is quickly gaining recognition as a contender for the quintessential Italian table white, offering a light, easy-drinking style at a good value. In this regard, it competes with other popular Italian whites like Soave, Gavi, and Pinot Grigio.
