The long aging process in large oak barrels enhances its richness and complexity, ensuring every sip is an experience to savor. With remarkable aging potential, Barolo DOCG “Monfortino” defies time, evolving and growing in complexity as it matures. This wine is a piece of history and craftsmanship, bringing the spirit of the Langhe to life in every glass. It’s undoubtedly one of the finest and most iconic red wines in the world.

Giacomo Conterno

Giacomo Conterno Winery, founded in 1900, is a landmark of Italian winemaking. The Conterno family’s winemaking tradition in the Langhe dates back to the 1800s. Their dedication to crafting wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region is evident in every bottle. Giacomo Conterno established the winery in Monforte d’Alba, and since then, the family has stayed true to their pursuit of excellence.

Under the leadership of Roberto Conterno, the winery continues to produce wines that embody tradition and craftsmanship. The winery focuses on Nebbiolo, the grape that defines the Langhe region. Conterno’s vineyards are located in Monforte d’Alba and Serralunga d’Alba, two of the most prestigious crus of Barolo. Here, the combination of high-altitude, clay-limestone soils and meticulous vineyard practices ensures the harvest of only the best quality fruit.

Conterno has always followed traditional winemaking methods. The family employs low yields, long macerations, and aging in large oak barrels. These time honored practices create wines with extraordinary depth and aging potential. The winery’s philosophy is clear: wine should express its origin. Every bottle reflects the land, the people, and the heritage of the Langhe.

In addition to Barolo, Conterno also produces Barbera d’Alba, another iconic wine of the region. The winery’s most famous labels, including Monfortino, Francia, Cerretta, and Arione, have set the standard for Barolo quality. Monfortino, in particular, is regarded as one of the finest Barolos ever made, known for its legendary structure and timeless elegance.

With over a century of winemaking history, Giacomo Conterno Winery stands as a true monument to Italian winemaking. The winery blends tradition, passion, and precision to craft some of the world’s most sought-after wines.

Barolo – Piedmont’s Iconic Wine

Piedmont’s most famous red, comes from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. It is known for its “tar and roses” aroma, bright ruby color that fades to garnet, firm tannins, and vibrant acidity.
To be labeled Barolo DOCG, the wine must age for at least 38 months, including 18 in oak barrels. The Riserva version requires 62 months of aging. Over time, Barolo develops earthy complexity, truffle notes, and dark chocolate hints. Its longevity and evolving depth make it one of the world’s most sought-after wines.
